[dropcap]F[/dropcap]Fender® Music Australia (FMA) today announced the release of the DIESEL SIGNATURE STRATOCASTER® LIMITED EDITION – the brand’s first Australian Artist Signature model in 20 years and since Fender Musical Instruments Corporation (FMIC) began operations in the country. To celebrate 30 years since Mark ‘Diesel’ Lizotte stepped off the bus in Sydney, Fender® teamed up with him to create a unique instrument that celebrates his legacy, while paying homage to the guitar that helped ‘Diesel’ become a household name. In that spirit, the first 60 guitars will include a Diesel songbook, CD and Diesel adhesive logo.
Diesel rose to fame in his group Johnny Diesel & the Injectors and then became a solo artist releasing No.1 album “Hepfidelity” in March 1992 – which reached number one in Australia and earned him awards for Best Album and Best Male Artist at the ARIA Awards. Throughout his career, he’s released countless albums – spanning southern rock, soul, R&B, blues, and other genres.
During an intensive, six-month-long design process, Diesel worked closely with Fender to achieve a guitar that would encompass his blistering blues-rock tone and distinctive style. The resulting instrument is loaded with Texas Special pickups, an Ash Body, an oversized 70s headstock, soft ’57 V neck profile, 22 medium jumbo frets and an Aged White pearloid pickguard with contrasting black pickup covers and knobs.
“It was an honour to help bring to life the concepts, knowledge and style of one of the most respected guitarists in Australia,” said FMA Artist Relations Representative Heath Blows. “We wanted to create a guitar that paid homage to the original, whilst incorporating his current favourite features for added playability. We’ve only honoured two Australian guitarists with Artist Signature Series models, so the release of the Diesel Signature Stratocaster Limited Edition is an exciting event.”
‘Diesel’ has been playing the Diesel Signature Stratocaster® Limited Edition on the road during his ‘30 Year Thang’ solo tour celebrating his newly-released album “DIESEL 30: The Greatest Hits.” For more information on tour dates and the album, click here.
“This guitar rings a lot of bells for me — visually and sonically speaking, it’s a representation of where it all started,” said Mark ‘Diesel’ Lizotte.
Fender’s Artist Signature Series models honour popular and iconic musicians through product progression and storytelling, creating instruments inspired by the unique specifications of the world’s greatest guitarists and bassists. A unique tribute to Australian music history, Fender’s new Diesel Signature Stratocaster Limited Edition will be available at local dealers in December 2018.
